A Culinary Campus Shaped by the Hill
North Hill Culinary Institute reimagines culinary education as an immersive connection between learning, making, and dining. Set into Akron’s Furnace Hill, the design uses the site’s dramatic topography to organize a teaching institute and public restaurant as distinct yet interconnected experiences. Culinary laboratories, classrooms, a library, and a glass-roofed demonstration auditorium support hands-on education, while the restaurant and showcase kitchen extend that learning environment to the public. Architecture embedded into the hillside, transparent teaching spaces, and expressive glass forms reveal the craft of cooking—transforming the institute into a place where education becomes performance and dining becomes part of the learning experience.
